BMW i Vision Circular : Design Process

Dashboard sketches for the BMW i Vision Circular.
The main challenge was to create a very reduced interior, composing of only a handful of materials and parts yet offer a more engaging experience.
The V-shape of the dashboard projects into the cabin to give both driver and passenger their own interaction surface combined with a sharing surface on top. By creating a phy-gital experience we further evolve our shy-tech approach by offering a "magical" 3D-printed crystal sculpture which floats in the center of the dashboard, which mirrors as the "brain" and interaction zone for the car.

One of the key elements when it comes to recycling cars is to make the disassembly process efficient and not labor intensive.
That’s why this dashboard only has a few different parts and materials which is held together by our circular lock. Once that lock is unscrewed, the whole dashboard comes apart.I’ve always enjoyed doing these “explosion” shots during My #accd college days and was a great challenge to actually design all the inner parts to make it not only visually pleasing but also efficiently functional.

Designing the CIRCULAR logo
Designing the BMW i Circular was also approached in a “circular” way, starting from a solid volume we used every part of the circle to form the logo type, reducing waste. This logo is also the lock which holds the major elements of the interior together and can be found through out the interior and exterior.

Also special mention to colleague Erik Melldahl who designed and executed the rear seats and details
